Research Interests:
Our lab focuses on the control of stress gene expression in response to >stressors. Two paradigms are being studied, HEAT SHOCK and HYPOXIA. The capacity of heat shock factor ( HSF) to activate the hsp genes is analyzed. The role of auxiliary proteins in the control of HSF activation in Drosophila, rodents and human monocytes and its alteration in aging organisms is of particular interest to us. We also study the activation of the "master" transcription factor HIF-1 alpha (hypoxia inducible factor 1a) in various tissues of mice exposed to hypoxia. The causes of the attenuation of this activation in aging organisms are being analyzed at the molecular level .
